UTM officials announced on Wed., Mar. 11 that all in-person classes are officially cancelled effective Thursday, Mar. 12 until Apr. 6, 2020.
That means that for the next three weeks, we’re all going to be online students. We’re still not sure what that means, but it probably entails lots of video lectures and Canvas exams.
For some UTM students, this will be a difficult three weeks. Most on-campus student workers are being sent away like the rest of us, with little options for work for the temporary three week suspension time. Some students will have intermittent (at best) access to the Internet at home, while others will be forced to trek to a public library to keep up with their coursework.
Just remember through it all that the UT system officials took this step to keep us all safe and healthy. College dormitories are veritable petri dishes for the cultivation of infectious disease. Plus, the old adage holds with the coronavirus especially: a pinch of prevention is worth a pound of cure. In this instance, it might very well be a pound of prevention and a ton of cure, but the point remains.
We at The Pacer will continue to keep the UTM community informed about COVID-19 and other news through our online outlet at ThePacer.net.
