YOUniversity Party sweeps SGA Election; runoff scheduled for Friday

The  2014 Student Government Association Make-Up Election was held on April 10, and 641 UTM students cast a ballot. This election was held due to the technical difficulties in the original election on April 1.

The YOUniversity Party swept the election in the Senate races. (Click here for the Unofficial 2014 SGA Election Results in PDF form.)

There were ties in the colleges of Agriculture and Applied Sciences and Education, Health and Behavioral Sciences. There will be a run-off election Friday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those senators who tied in the two colleges.

Brant Luker (YOUniversity) and Tanna Norman (Real Deal) received 49 votes each and will have a run-off election for the fourth seat in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

Kelly James and John Sellers, both members of the YOUniversity Party, received 79 votes each and will run-off for the last seat in the College of Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences.

There was initially a three-way tie at 22 votes each in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts among Chantia Brown (YOUniversity), Georgia Brown (YOUniversity), and Leia Mitchell (Real Deal). Georgia Brown conceded from the election and Mitchell was ineligible, so Chanita Brown was deemed the winner of the fifth seat.

There is currently not a rule within the SGA Constitution that regards ties in the Senate race, so SGA Elections Commissioner Jacob Everett opted to hold a run-off election.

“The only fair thing is a run-off election,” Everett said.

Only students that are members of these colleges will be eligible to vote. Voting will be online at www.utm.edu/election or students can vote at the polling station in the University Center.
