Work on soffit continues on Paul Meek Library to increase safety for all

The UTM Physical Plant Operations is working on the library to increase safety for the students and faculty.According to the Physical Plant Operations Administration, the soffit on the library has had many issues from the wind within the past few years. The soffit is the underside of the Library’s overhang.

Especially with all of the storms that occurred last semester, the soffit was beginning to fall down on its own. Under the direction of the director of the physical plant, Tim Nipp, workers are replacing the soffit to increase the safety for the students.

The administration of the physical plant isn’t quite sure of when the reconstruction will be complete. Work on the soffit can be delayed due to bad weather such as the recent snow storm.

“The construction is definitely beneficial since it is angled more toward the students’ safety.” said Bethany Henderson, a senior Ag Business major.

The workers do ask that the students and faculty stay outside of the construction zone. Having the minimum number of people in that area helps them to complete their job faster and more safely.
