UTM women’s basketball is eight games into their season, and despite their most recent game being a loss, they’re on the right track for a good season.
The team opened their season with back-to-back wins against Samford and Southern Illinois, before dropping their first game at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis. They would pick back up their winning ways when the team returned home to defeat Arkansas State in overtime and then Christian Brothers University (CBU).
Since their win against CBU, the Skyhawks have won one and dropped two games, with the win coming against sister school UTC. Their most recent game, Dec. 4, was a crushing blow by No. 4 Louisville; when the game was finally over, the scoreboard read 102-62.
The team currently sits at 5-3, with OVC play only three games away.
The leading scorer so far in the season is sophomore forward Chelsey Perry, who has a total of 97 points scored throughout eight games. Perry’s highest scoring game came against Arkansas State, where she would score 21 points, two of which being three pointers. Perry is second in line for leading the team in rebounds with 36.
The team leader in rebounds is sophomore forward Maddie Waldrop with 43 rebounds thus far. Perry is also leading the team in blocks, with 13, and averaging 1.6 blocks-per-game.
The Skyhawks will next face Lipscomb, who’s 2-6, Dec. 9, before going on to play Alabama Huntsville and Mississippi Valley State.
Following their next three games, UTM will open OVC play at Eastern Illinois.
