Change is a marvelous thing and soon enough, one of the most influential stories of a life time may be changing for the better.
September 1, 1998 is a date that, for many adults today, marked the introduction to a new world, the day the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was released in the U.S.
Nearly twenty years later, this series has gone through a couple of changes by the addition of a play, The Cursed Child, and a new movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
What we have rarely seen is the original set of books receive new cover art. There have always been fans and artists recreating the covers and illustrations to fit their idea of what they want, but soon we will have an updated version. Releasing in July 2018 is a complete redo of the old cover art from the late 90s and early 2000s.
Artist Brian Selznick is redoing all seven books in their paperback form for the 20th anniversary, and is working to create a special box-set to be released in September 2018 with the anniversary. His new designs have not yet been released, but he will not be working with the designs created in 2013 by Kazu Kibuishi.
Scholastic Publishing, who has been publishing the Harry Potter series for some time in the U.S., has fully backed the decision in the artist and is looking forward to the cinematic themes that are expected to play a role in Selznick’s designs. Selznick has expressed his excitement to be a part of this anniversary and to meet fans of the series all over the country.
This new series has been one of the most widely anticipated and is bound to reignite readers everywhere to enter the “wizarding world” once more.
The 20th anniversary is fast approaching, and the anticipation of the new designs is projected to entice new readers to rush the platform and join in the magic that can only be found in J.K. Rowling’s story.
