WIC 5K benefits March of Dimes on April 13

The Women in Communications (WIC) club will be hosting their annual 5K on Saturday, April 13 at the Brian Brown Memorial Greenway.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. It is only $5 to enter. The 5K will begin at 10 a.m. The starting line will be at thegreenway entrance across the road from McDonalds.

Participants are encouraged to seek out sponsors to support their run. WIC asks all to donate to the cause, whether participating in the 5K or not. The majority of the proceeds will be donated to the March of Dimes.

Water will be provided for participants. WIC suggests all participants park in the parking lot by the Elam center, across the road from the Brian Brown Memorial Greenway.

The current president of WIC, senior Public Relations major Meredith Reynolds, encourages everyone to attend.

“Women in Communications hosts an annual walk/run in which we raise money and donate to a worthy cause. This year, we are raising money for the March of Dimes, a very worthy cause. We ask that people come out and participate or donate money for the cause,” Reynolds said.

Dr. Teresa Collard, faculty advisor for WIC, said that this annual walk/run has taken place for seven years, and that last year the group sponsored March of Dimes as well, finding it to be an important cause.

“Weakley County does not have a March of Dimes chapter, to my knowledge, so this is really the only opportunity for the organization to receive important funds from this area to benefit those in need. Therefore, we hope many people will turn out to support this event that benefits an organization that helps so many,” Collard said.

Anyone interested in participating in the 5K can pick up a registration form from any Women in Communications club member. For more information, email Meredith Reynolds at mernreyn@ ut.utm.edu or visit Dr. Teresa Collard at Gooch305H or email her at tcollard@utm.edu.
