Dear Skyhawks,
My name is Devin Majors and I am the president of the UTM Student Government Association (SGA). I am going into my second term as president and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome you all back to UTM.
I hope that everyone has had a great summer and is just as excited as I am to begin the school year.
SGA is a student led governing body that represents the thousands of UTM students to the university administration. Our organization has four different branches: executive, legislative, judicial, and freshman council.
We have over 60 student leaders who work day in and out to provide representation for the student body.
We have several legislative objectives for the year which include reforming the parking citation appeal system to make it fair for students, elevating the diversity in our faculty/staff to better serve our diverse student body, increasing the starting wages for our hardworking student workers and initiating a major campus project that will make campus more enjoyable for the student body.
Student government also has a lot of big events in store for you all including our second annual Student Appreciation Week (Sept. 23-28) which will consist of six events: State of the SGA Address, Student Appreciation BBQ, Student Athlete and Student Worker Appreciation days, 90s themed skate night and a tailgate at the Sept. 28 home game vs. Murray State.
In addition, we will be hosting our annual Diversity Week and Student vs. Faculty/Staff Charity Basketball game later in the school year.
Each and every student enrolled at UTM is very important to us. Your continued feedback and support is crucial to the success of student government and the overall quality of our campus.
I encourage you all to stop by the SGA Office (room 245) in the Student Life Office located in the University Center or to attend Senate meetings every other Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Robert Smith Legislative Chambers (UC 111).
I also ask that you send me an email at sga1@utm.edu if you need assistance with anything.
I hope that you will get involved with SGA through our freshman council, events, meetings and connect with us on social media!
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please feel free to contact any member of SGA or myself. We are here to represent you and advocate on your behalf.
