Beginning at midnight August 10, Weakley County will be under a mask or face covering mandate due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Weakley County Mayor Jake Bynum says over the past 10 days, there have been 222 new positive cases across the county.
Although citizens will be required to wear face coverings in public areas, there are several exemptions to the executive order.
You are not required to wear a mask in your residence or while driving by yourself or with family. Those working outdoors or in socially distanced circumstances will also not be required to wear a facial covering.
Bynum also stated that children under the age of twelve or anyone with underlying medical conditions are also exempt from wearing a facial covering.
Religious organizations and places of worship are also exempt from the mask mandate.
“If you’re in a house of worship you don’t have to wear a face covering, unless your church is asking you to wear one”, said Bynum.
You won’t be required to wear a face mask while eating or drinking in a restaurant in Weakley County. You aren’t required to mask outdoors either, as long as you can practice social distancing.
The mask mandate is in effect until further notice.
