Madison Bergren, a 5-8 setter out of Delta High School in Muncie, Ind., has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the UTM volleyball team, head coach Darrin McClure has announced.
“I am really excited about Madison coming to [UTM],” McClure said. “She is a very accomplished setter, has a great attitude and fits perfectly into what we are trying to accomplish here at [UTM]. I can’t wait to have her on campus and in our gym.”
Bergren, whose sister Morgan is a sophomore setter at the Kentucky, is coming off a season in which she helped lead Delta to a 30-5 record and a sectional championship. The Eagles finished as runners-up in the prominent Hoosier Heritage Conference.
Playing under head coach Heidi Zickgraf, Bergren was one of only 12 players to tally All-HHC accolades while also garnering second team all-state and all-county first team honors after a remarkable senior year. She ranked in the top-five in the state of Indiana with 1,071 assists (10.60 per set), while adding 151 kills, 198 digs and 33 service aces in 101 sets played.
Bergren accounted for four triple-doubles during her senior season, including a season-high 62 assists to go along with 10 kills and 13 digs in only four sets over Alexandria-Monroe on Oct. 10. Overall, she eclipsed the 50-assist mark on four different occasions.
During her junior season, Bergren handed out 852 assists (9.3 per set) while adding 87 kills and a remarkable .642 attack percentage. She also added 147 digs and 30 service aces in 92 sets played to rack up All-HHC honorable mention accolades.
On the club level, Bergren played with the prestigious asics Munciana squad, training under coach and co-director Mike Lingenfelter.
Bergren will join a 2014 Skyhawk roster that will return 11 players and all six starters.
