Trystan Bechtel, 19, passed away on February 19, 2014. Trystan is from Trenton, Tenn. and was a freshman at UTM. She was also a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She was very involved on campus and was loved by many. There has been a prayer circle and a prayer service held at UTM in her honor where a lot of the Greek community and students attended. Also many of her friends have gotten together and had dinners in her honor to celebrate her life.
While talking with her friends, I learned that Trystan wouldn’t want her friends to be sad but instead celebrate her life. Her friends talked about the kind of person she was and how much of an impact she made on others. They talked about how Trystan was someone who could walk into any room and light it up and how she was the life of the party. She had a smile that could brighten anyone’s day and a laugh that could do the same. She was a very outgoing person and would make everyone around her more outgoing as well. The memories that they have of Trystan really show what she was like as a person and how funny and charismatic she was. Also talking with her friends I learned how the days are beginning to get easier as time goes by because they have each other and they know that Trystan will never truly leave them.
Attending the prayer circle and prayer service held for Trystan showed not only how close the Greek community here is at UTM but also how close we are as a campus. There is always someone to lean on or turn to if you are feeling down. Even though she is gone her spirit and memory will continue to live on. By talking with her closest friends I learned to not take any moment for granted and to always make memories and cherish everyone that is around you. Celebrate life everyday and be thankful for everyone and everything in your life. Continue to keep in your thoughts and prayers Trystan’s family and friends.
