In news that should have college students shouting for joy, studies have shown that tequila can help with diabetes, reduce blood sugar and help reduce weight.
Recently, the Science Daily and the New York Daily News published articles on an American Chemical Society study that revealed some things that may come as a surprise.
According to the study, “A sweetener created from the plant used to make tequila could lower blood glucose levels for the 26 million Americans and others worldwide who have type 2 diabetes and help them and the obese lose weight.”

So to you, fellow UTM students, I pose a question to those of you who drink.
Would you swap your favorite adult beverage for tequila if it would help your health?
From spending one too many nights at local bars here in Martin, I know that tequila is a thriving drink in this town. However, I highly doubt that any of those people are drinking it for their health.
I encourage you to read the articles. Do you think they have a legitimate point?
For those of you who don’t drink, would the idea of a healthier lifestyle get you to turn back the bottle?
It’s long been said that a glass of wine is good for the heart. Is tequila the new trick to a healthier life?
