A mobile Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic will be in Martin, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martin Church of Christ Youth Activities Building for all veterans on campus and in the community to visit. The VA mobile clinic is a free event sponsored by Veterans Services.
The mobile clinic can perform every task a brick-and-mortar VA hospital could. With the veteran’s DD-214 or Certificate of Discharge, which is mandatory, the VA can assist with disability claims and medical insurance, mental health services, set up an eBenefits account, provide educational benefits and much more. Without the DD-214, veterans cannot be legally helped.
“The goal is to serve veterans,” said UTM Veterans Services Coordinator Johnny Dyer. This is the second mobile clinic that has been hosted by Veterans Services in the past year and they will continue to host the event, along with the veterans resource day, to serve veterans in the community.
Veterans Services is hoping to serve at least 50 veterans this year after serving 120 veterans in October when the mobile VA clinic was hosted on campus.
Many veterans in Weakley County are older in age, which can make the drive to Memphis, where the closest VA hospital is located, difficult. “The mobile clinic allows the VA to come to the veterans since the nearest VA facility is in Jackson and Murray, and those are only outpatient clinics,” said West Tennessee Veterans Education Coordinator, Marcus VanCleave.
