The University of Tennessee at Martin is offering two new courses, a pharmacy technician training course and an ACT prep course for high school students.
The pharmacy technician training course is a 50-hour course for community members interested in careers as pharmacy technicians. This program prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and take the certification exam. Course content includes reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. During the course, students will also learn dosage calculations, IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.
The class will be offered from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 7 through April 25, on the University of Tennessee at Martin campus. Tuition for this course is $1,199, which includes textbooks and supplies.
The ACT prep course is for high school students hoping to raise their ACT scores. The class, directed by Ron Ramage, UTM adjunct instructor and Obion County Central High School teacher, will consist of four sessions focusing on English, math, science, reading and writing.
The four-week prep course offered from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, Feb. 27 through March 19, and is also held at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The registration fee is $90 per person. Students should also purchase “The Real ACT Prep Guide (CD) 3rd Edition (Real ACT Prep Guide)” textbook at the UT Martin campus bookstore for $34.95 or on Amazon.com. The textbook is necessary for the first class meeting.
