UTM head tennis coach Caitlyn Williams has secured her first commitment as Ariadna Ondo will join the Skyhawk program as a freshman in the fall of 2020.
Ondo is currently ranked 235th amongst all Spanish amateurs by the Universal Tennis Rating organization and boasts several notable tournament victories throughout her illustrious career.
“I am excited to introduce Ariadna as my first signee,” said Williams, who was named the Skyhawk head tennis coach in January. “She is a player who wants to work hard and has a desire to improve her game. I believe she will come in and make a big impact both on and off the court. After ending the semester so dramatically back in March, I am really looking forward to getting Ariadna as well as the rest of the team back here to Martin soon.”
Ondo has displayed a high level of success against top competition, posting a 7-5 record against players amongst the top-400 in the UTR Spanish open rankings. That includes an impressive victory over the 79th ranked player in Spain, a pair of wins over ITF and WTA players and two victories over current NCAA Division I signees.
Hailing from the city of Valencia, Ondo was a quarterfinalist at the IBP Nationals Almunecar and Marca Circuit U16 Penacanada events. She was the runner-up on the National Open U18 Valencia Tennis Tour, where she was classified as one of the best eight players. She won the Jordytour Regionals tournament and the Tecnifibre de Gandia Absoluto event and was a second round qualifier in the doubles main draw at the ITF G5 La Nucia event.
Ondo joins a UTM squad that returns seven players from the 2019-20 campaign.
