UTM softball opens season with start of official practice

The UTM softball team opened preparations for its 2021 campaign with the start of official practice on Saturday afternoon on a chilly day at Bettye Giles Field.

Excitement was in the air as the Skyhawks open their preseason work with second-year head coach Brian Dunn at the helm. The Skyhawks feature a young squad with a mix of veterans sprinkled into a team which finished last season 12-10 before COVID-19 brought the sporting world to a sudden halt.

The Skyhawks return 13 players from last year’s squad while adding eight newcomers to the team. The squad will be led by the veteran group of Aalia BivensPaige ClarkSeeley Layne and Hannah Ridolfi to name a few.

UTM will spend the next 27 days preparing for the season opener at the Lady Demon Classic which runs Feb. 12-14 in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
