The Kappa Omicron chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. had its Fall 2014 Neophyte Talent Show presentation on Saturday, Jan. 10, in Watkins Auditorium.
Neophyte presentations are common among the National Pan Hellenic Council organizations to present the newest members of the organization to the campus.
Showcases normally last from 30 minutes to an hour and consist of stepping, recitation of organization history, greetings, and recitation of poems.
The event started at 7:14 p.m. and was filled with family and friends of the new initiates, members of Phi Beta Sigma and other NPHC organizations, and the campus.
Over 70 members of the Kappa Omicron chapter and members of the Phi Beta Sigma from surrounding campuses made their way to Martin to celebrate the chapter’s largest line since 2003, with 10 new initiates.
“It feels good to bring in so many great men into an even greater fraternity and for this to be such a big line we’re ready to show this campus what we are all about. We are all proud of each and every one of our Neos; they worked hard and now it’s their time to take over,” said Demarco Jackson, dean of pledges.
The fraternity also celebrated its Founder’s Day this weekend, beginning Jan. 9. This year marks 101 years of brotherhood, scholarship and service nationally for Phi Beta Sigma.
The new initiates, or neophytes, are Jeremy Coleman, Khalil Kendley, Ryan Halliburton, Ronny Elkins Jr., Xavier Cunningham, Rodnicholas Lewis, Skyler Austin, Joseph Nelson, Jamal Glenn and Derrick Talbird Jr.
