The ninth annual Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship concluded Friday in Florence, Alabama, with a team from the University of Georgia finishing in first place.
The team of Byron Kenney and William Treadwell caught just under 50 pounds of bass over the course of the two-day event, which marks the university’s second national championship. Georgia becomes the second school to win multiple championships, joining North Carolina State.
This year’s event was held at Lake Pickwick and Lake Wilson in Florence, where 158 teams from 93 different colleges across the United States competed.
Second place was awarded to Tennessee Tech’s Landon Anderson and Tyler Arms.Their team had led the competition the first day of the event, but they finished with just shy of 46 pounds of bass caught. Wesley Anderson and Cody Harrison from the University of North Alabama finished third, recording 45 pounds of bass.
UTM had three teams participating in the event. The team of Colin Bennett and Dylan Powley, who placed first at the Big Bass Splash at Kentucky Lake in April, placed 68th, with a total weight of 22.93 pounds of bass. Ryan Lackey and Miranda Carlton finished 75th, finishing the week with 22.38 pounds of bass. Lastly, the team of Kyle Winstead and Rowdy Englert pulled in 5.90 pounds of bass, putting them in 148th place.
Each team was required to catch no more than five bass per team, all of which must be at least 12 inches in length. Both of these regulations can be altered depending on the state or lake limit. If the state or lake requirements differ from these prescribed guidelines, the regulations of that state or lake takes precedence.
The event is sponsored by Cabela’s, an outdoor equipment retail chain based in Sidney, Nebraska, and the Boat Owners Association of The United States, also known as BoatUS.
