UTM’s Department of Housing hosted its annual Halloween Carnival on Oct. 31, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The carnival was a designated safe zone so kids could safely trick-or-treat and have fun. Martin Primary School and Martin Elementary School children were invited to come. Housing staff welcomed all local area children as well. Over 500 families came this year.
The Housing Department and other campus organizations had several games and activities in Cooper’s lobby and courtyard. The children could participate in a candy walk, a costume contest or take a hayride around the Quad. There was also a haunted basement for the older and braver kids to walk through.
Residents in Cooper Hall and University Village apartments also passed out candy to the trick-or-treaters.
Not only did Housing participate in the Halloween carnival but also other student organizations such as Greeks, JARS, Leaders in Residence and other student-led clubs. The student organizations were set up outside in the lawn of Phase II and had games and candy for the kids.
UTM Housing wants to thank all organizations and volunteers that participated: Sigma Chi, Leaders in Residence, Gamma Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, JARS, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the SHAPE Club, Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Phi Alpha, SAE, BSA, Delta Sigma Theta, League of Starving Artists and AKPsi.
Thanks for all the other non-organization volunteers that helped also. Thanks also to all the Housing Staff that helped make the event great! Every year we are looking for more organizations and volunteers to participate.
