On Tuesday, March 13, the Skyhawk baseball team achieved their fourth win of the season.
The Skyhawks bested Union University with a final score of 11-3, with Collin Edwards leading the way. Edwards, a senior business management major from Arnold, Missouri, scored a perfect 3-3, meaning he fairly hit the ball and was able to make it to base every time he was up for bat.
Following their 11-5 win against Union University, the UTM baseball team prepares for a busy weekend with three matches against Southeast Missouri (SEMO). The game, however, will be difficult for the Skyhawks. The last time the Skyhawks played SEMO, they suffered a tough loss of 13-4. The game, which was against the conference defending champs, was in the series finale.
However, Winston Cannon, a sophomore accounting major from Cookeville, believes the team is prepared for the games. In light of last years game, he said, “We’re just a completely different team this year, a lot of new players, a new coach and a new culture surrounding our team. We’ve trained hard in the weight room and on the field and we’re ready to go out there and compete against them this weekend.”
The Redhawks will be hungry for a win of their own, however. Their recent loss to the Central Arkansas Bears of 4-5 is a close and frustrating loss. SEMO’s record is currently 5-13, which is only slightly better than UTM’s 4-12.
UTM’s games against SEMO are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m., 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively. For more information and to stay updated during the triple header, visit utmsports.com or thepacer.net.
