UT Martin’s basketball season approaches its close

Women’s basketball:
After a difficult start to their season, UT Martin Women’s basketball team battles to a 6-11 record.

The Skyhawks’ Women’s basketball team rebounded after starting the season with zero wins in its first six contests. Since then, the Skyhawks have managed to win six of their next 11 games.

Guard Kenley McCarn has been the team’s iron woman throughout the season, leading the team in both minutes and games played. McCarn has played in all 17 games this season, averaging a team high 36.9 MPG (Minutes Played Per Game). Throughout the 17 game stretch, she lead the Skyhawks in scoring, averaging 15.7 PPG (Points Per Game).

Forward Anaya Brown leads the Skyhawks in both rebounds and blocks, averaging 8.1 and 1.6 in the respective categories. Skyhawks forward Lexi Rubel leads the team in both assists and steals, averaging 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

The Skyhawks, who are taking this season one game at a time, look to continue their winning tendencies since their Dec. 2 matchup against Evansville.

The UT Martin Skyhawks take on Southeast Missouri State Redhawks on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at home. The Redhawks also have a 6-11 record on the season.

Men’s basketball:
UT Martin men’s basketball team continues back and forth season as their record falls to 10-9, following a road loss to Morehead State.

The Skyhawks look to find consistency as the calendar approaches February. The Skyhawks have yet to find a stretch of victories with the highest win streak being only three contests.

A 10-9 record slots the team in fifth place of the Ohio Valley Conference. Jordan Sears is averaging a team high of 19 PPG while also leading the Skyhawks in assists and steals, with four assists and about two steals per game.

Forward Issa Muhammad is the team’s leader in both rebounds and blocked shots, averaging eight rebounds and just under one block per game.

The Skyhawks continue their season at home against Southeast Missouri State Redhawks on Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Redhawks are coming off a win against SIU Edwardsville. That win brought their record to 7-12.
