The UTM Traffic Office has launched a new Pay It Forward program as a remedy for unpaid tickets.
This new program will allow any student, faculty, or staff member with a current parking citation to bring in five canned goods or proof of a Lifeline Blood Drive donation or attempted donation to have one ticket voided. Only one citation will be eligible for consideration per event per individual. Handicap tickets also are not eligible for dismissal.
The first Pay It Forward event will begin on March 1 running through March 12, and it will begin with a food drive. You can bring your citation and donation of five nonperishable food items to the traffic office during this time. Any of the food being donated must be non-perishable with a non-expired expiration date.
Here is a list of preferred items for this event: 1 box of granola/cereal bars, 1 package of individual apple sauces, 1 box of mini bags of chips, 1 box of instant potatoes/macaroni and cheese/rice, 1 box of crackers or easy storable snacks, 1 box of oatmeal, 5 cans of tuna or chicken and 1 box of pastas or instant pasta/rice.
All donations to the event will benefit the Captain’s Pantry, which is a food pantry operation open to all enrolled students regardless of housing situation. Students in need can pick up food items free of charge at two different locations on campus. These food pantries are located in the Ellington and Cooper Hall lobbies and are open daily from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Future Pay It Forward events will include a Lifeline Blood Drive donation or proof of attempted donation.
