This May, UTM will be hosting its spring 2021 commencement in person at the Elam Center.
There will be four different ceremonies across two days to safely accommodate all of the students and their families. UTM’s plan is to separate the colleges into four different ceremonies so that everyone can attend while keeping in line with regulations set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
UTM’s Chancellor Keith Carver stated in an email to students, “May is always a very exciting time on our campus, when we get to celebrate and recognize all of the achievements of our students and the hard work of our faculty and staff to make their achievements possible. I’m thrilled that, this year, we’ll be able to do that once again, albeit with some limitations.”
The commencement times are as follows:
College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences and Department of Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies ceremony will take place Friday, May 7 at 6 p.m.
The College of Humanities and Fine Arts, Department of Health and Human Performance, and College of Graduate Studies ceremony will take place Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m.
The Departments of Nursing, Educational Studies, and Behavioral Sciences ceremony will take place Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
The College of Business and Global Affairs and College of Engineering and Natural Sciences ceremony will take place Saturday, May 8th at 6 p.m.
There will be limitations on tickets for graduates and on how many students/faculty are allowed at each ceremony.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and a large number of May graduates, each graduate will receive three tickets. Due to these restrictions, UTM will not have additional tickets to disperse like in previous years. The commencement ceremony will be featured on Facebook Live, so additional family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony in person will still be able to celebrate with students virtually.
The Office of Alumni Relations will be hosting the Senior Walk on April 29th at 4:00 p.m. in the Quad. Everyone will be asked to maintain social distance and to wear masks.
The Senior Walk will begin on the patio between the University Center and the Paul Meek Library. The walk will end in front of the Hall-Moody Administration Building where seniors will be encourage to split at the end to pick up their senior gift. All seniors participating in the walk will need to be there at 3:45 p.m.
Seniors who have class or can not attend the walk at that time may pick up their senior gift earlier that day from the Dunagan Alumni Center or in the days following as supplies last.
This year there will not be a graduation practice after the senior walk as there has been in past years. Since Alumni Relations is not hosting a graduation practice this year, the entire event will take place in the Quad.
