The Atlantis of UTM, a little-known gem of a space which can be used for studying, group projects, meetings and more, lies conveniently within the bookstore of the UC.
This resource is called the Pod. When students think of studying or doing homework, they automatically think of the library. There is no doubt the library is a great place to catch up on some work, but sometimes it can be crowded which is when the Pod can come in handy.
“The Pod is a multi-functional room that can be used by students, faculty, staff and members of the community,” said Calista Drone, manager of the UTM bookstore. “The room is equipped with two cable televisions, a conference table and chairs, as well as comfortable couches and chairs for lounging. A dry erase wall is located on one wall where users can write out homework problems, words of wisdom, or anything they choose, with the provided dry erase markers.”
The Pod is an open and inviting space that students can use however they like. It does not just have to be for studying, it can also be used as a hangout spot in between classes or while eating lunch. There is no food and drink restriction so students are welcome to bring their lunch in and relax between classes.
Drone said that a growing number of students are starting to use the Pod as well. Being in the back of the bookstore however, many students have likely seen it but may not know what it is or what its use is for.
So next time you are in the U.C. or need a place to get away and study or just relax between classes, remember to check out the Pod. Its hours mimic the bookstore’s which are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. – noon and whenever the bookstore has posted extended hours.
