The 2025 Grammy’s was a star-studded night filled with awarding performances and glamour red carpet looks. It is a special achievement for music artists as they get to celebrate themselves and other’s accomplishments. Winning the prestigious Grammy’s award is a milestone in an musician’s career. However, the winner’s heartfelt speeches after receiving the gold-plated gramophone have become engraved in history as well. Here are the most memorable acceptances speeches from the 2025 Grammy’s:
Doechii, Best Rap Album –
Upon discovering her album ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ had won Best Rap Album, Doechii was immediately overrun with emotion and received multiple hugs from those around her as she walked to the stage. Doechii began her speech by stating that the category she had just won had been around since 1989 and only 3 women, including her, had won.
She then went on to discuss her struggles with sobriety, as well as all of the raw emotion she put into the album and how she felt she bared her soul on it. She talks about all of the culture and talent that exists in her hometown, Tampa; how it is often overlooked by labels because it’s not as big and bustling as a place like Miami.
Doechii finalizes her speech with a message to young black girls. She said that they should never feel the need to allow anybody to project any negative stereotypes onto them and that they are exactly who they need to be, calling herself a testimony to her statement. Being beloved for her upbeat, loud, different take on rap, Doechii emphasized to young girls and women that they can do everything they dream of without compromising who they are in the process.
Chappell Roan, Best New Artist –
When Chappell Roan accepted her Grammy this year, she made a point to talk about how poorly young and upcoming artists are treated in the industry.
She honed in on being signed so young, being dropped from her label and struggling to find a job, the recession caused by the pandemic in recent years and her inability to even receive healthcare from her employer in such high-risk times. She advocated for the correct treatment of all artists, but especially young ones making their way up the ladder and for labels to treat their signed artists like respectable employees, giving them a liveable wage and the benefits other jobs offer.
She concluded her speech with the line, “Labels, we got you, but do you got us?” This line received an uproar from the crowd, as the room filled with artists who had once been in Roan’s position felt there was finally someone brave enough to call labels out publicly.
Alicia Keys, Global Impact Award –
Keys started her speech by referring to herself as a queen, as the ultimate trailblazer. Showing that she knows how good she is at what she does, she continues to talk about how beautiful the show is and how grateful she is for it all.
Alicia Keys goes on to thank Dr. Dre for starting the movement of sound that he did and details how her motivation to rise up and become who she is came from that. Keys then talks about how hard it was for her to find her ground as a woman in the industry and how she had to fight for the respect she has now. She inquires as to why people don’t see women as producers and details how she struggled in that field especially.
She then goes on to list female producers who have, in her words, powered the industry. Keys talks about how diversity is imperative to keeping the music industry alive and calls DEI a blessing, not a threat. She encourages people to get involved no matter where they are from so that the industry and people on an individual level can fight against harmful forces and “rise like a phoenix.”
