The battle of a great lip sync performance

UT Martin held the annual lip sync competition at the Martin Public Library stage on Oct. 1.

At the event, each organization that is a part of the College Panhellenic Council (CPC) and Interfraternity Council (IFC) get to show their skills in lip syncing and dancing. Many parents came out to show their support to their children, as well.

“I’m so excited to see all the routines. I love music and I love dance. My daughter is in it, too,” said the mother of a Chi Omega member, Kelley Nanney.

This year, the theme of the battle was Favorite Musical Artist. The CPC division went first and the IFC division followed.

Two-time consecutive champions Zeta Tau Alpha kicked off the event. The musician they chose for the night was Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull. The women performed to popular Pitbull songs such as Fireball and Hotel Room Service. Their performance landed them first place for the third year in a row.

Alpha Delta Pi performed to Ariana Grande’s music. They lip synced and danced to hits such as Problem and Greedy.

Alpha Omicron Pi chose popular artist Taylor Swift. They lip synced and danced to popular songs such as Blank Space and Shake It Off in their performance. They were awarded second place.

Chi Omega took it to the ’80s and ’90s with Michael Jackson. Songs that stood out were Beat It and Smooth Criminal. Their lip syncing and dancing brought them the third-place trophy in the CPC division.

Sigma Alpha came to the stage with performances to Miley Cyrus. Most of the songs that were used were from the Hannah Montana era, such as You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home and The Best of Both Worlds.

Kappa Alpha Order (KA) kicked off the IFC division with performances to Rhianna. They showed their moves to hit songs such as SOS. During their performance, they used umbrellas to spell out Kappa Alpha while playing the song Umbrella. They were awarded second place.

“We have put in a lot of teamwork these last three weeks, and I’m ready to see how it all comes together,” said KA member, Trey Warner.

Pi Kappa Alpha went with Justin Bieber as their musician of choice. They showed their skills to popular throwback Justin Bieber songs such as Boyfriend and Baby.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon brought it back to the ’90s with musician Justin Timberlake. They performed songs such as Rock Your Body and even *NSYNC’s song Bye Bye Bye.

Sigma Chi went with Post Malone as their favorite musician. They performed songs such as Congratulations and Enemies. Their performance landed them the third-place spot in the IFC division.

Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) got the crowd all shaken up with performances of songs by Elvis Presley. They lip synced and danced to popular songs such as Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock. Their performance led them to take home first place in the IFC division.

“My favorite part of this evening was winning,” said AGR member, Blaine Woodard.
