Taking a look at the UTM’s 2021 football recruit class

On February 3, UTM announced their 2021 recruiting class for the Skyhawk football program, as 16 players committed to the school on National Signing Day.

Seven states are represented among UTM’s 16 new recruits: five from Alabama, three from Tennessee and Mississippi, two from Iowa and one from each of Florida, Georgia and Arkansas. The class focused heavily on skill positions and the offensive and defensive line, with nine skills players (quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end), six linemen (three each for offensive and defensive) and one defensive back.

“We felt like this class added a lot of depth to our program,” head coach Jason Simpson said. “On defense we wanted to add some depth and that was the plan while on offense we looked to beef up our skill players. It was very difficult to find the proper holes to fill with all of our returning players and the uncertainty that was the fall season. We are very pleased with the talent level of the group, especially with some of the guys that we added at the break which can come in and be really good players for us right away.”

OL Ethan Boyd (Sophomore, 6-5, 295 pounds, Hinds Community College)

DL Toby Camp (Freshman, 6-3, 250 pounds, Etowah Highschool)

DL Christian Dowell (Freshman, 6-2, 280 pounds, Christian Brothers High School)

WR Blake Durham (6-2, 190 pounds, Pike Road High School)

RB Sam Franklin (Freshman, 5-10, 195 pounds, Central High School)

QB Karson Greene (Freshman, 6-0, 190 pounds, Saraland High School)

TE Richie Griglione III (Sophomore, 6-5, 235 pounds, Iowa Western Community College)

RB Sagel Hickson (Freshman, 5-9, 190 pounds, Palmetto High School)

OL Alex Kirton (Sophomore, 6-0, 320 pounds, Iowa Western Community College)

QB Josh Lundy (Freshman, 6-3, 190 pounds, Hoover High School)

WR JaMichael McGoy, Jr. (Freshman, 5-10, 170 pounds, Boyd-Buchanan High School)

OL Lamar Morgan (Sophomore, 6-5, 305 pounds, East Central High School)

WR Dion Nelson, Jr. (Freshman, 6-4, 215 pounds, Selma High School)

Safety Tyler Pugh (Freshman 5-7, 170 pounds, Grayson High School)

DL Zion Rucker (Freshman, 6-4, 300 pounds, Smyrna High School)

Bracey, Boyd, Griglione and Morgan are early enrollees.
