Suspected shooter taken into custody at Mississippi State University

At approximately 10:20 a.m. Thursday, August 27, Mississippi State University’s official Twitter account for emergencies and advisory information reported an active shooter on campus.

The suspect was reported at Carpenter Hall, last seen in the vicinity of Lee Hall, when MSU advised to seek shelter immediately. The university was immediately placed on lockdown until at least 2 p.m.

The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 10:30 a.m. There have been no reports of injury or of any further shots fired as of 11:35 a.m. this morning.

MSU has issued an all-clear and classes and normal campus operations will resume at 2 p.m. There is no report of any further danger on campus at this time, however, MSU continues to ask those on campus to remain calm and use caution until further notice.
