Students will soon have the opportunity to vote on Student Government Association (SGA) members and possible changes within
the university.
SGA elections will be conducted on April 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. online through Runway. Th e morning of the elections, all students will receive an email with a link to the election system and there will also be a notification present at the top of the main Runway page during the period of elections.
This election process stays consistent with past years and follows a similar structure of events. Candidates can start campaigning on March 12 with a debate over student life issues scheduled to take place on April 1 ahead of the
April 9 Election Day.
Students will be voting for the offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary General, Student Trustee and Judicial Seats. These Executive Council offices seats are filled by candidates that receive over 50% of the vote. There are also Student Senate seats that will be elected by students from the corresponding colleges. Elections are decided by filling in the candidates with the highest percentage of votes until all seats are filled.
Party platforms are due March 8 and will be announced shortly after, allowing students to make more informed choices on their candidates of choice through knowing the issues they will be addressing during their campaign.
SGA has been working on different ideas throughout the past year including a study day during finals week and a syllabus bank. Students were contacted on Feb. 23 to show support for the study day initiative. Any student or recognized university organization can petition items to be placed on the ballot during the elections as well.
