The newly renamed Student Culinary Council had their first meeting of the semester on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 12:30 p.m. in the Skyhawk Dining Hall.
Several faculty and students stopped by the informal meeting and shared suggestions and ideas and gained information about upcoming events.
Sodexo’s new program is a renaming and reinventing of the old “Food Committee.” The new program is an effort to increase awareness and participation in the dining experience after the previous program saw declining student involvement throughout the last four years.
Danielle Jones, marketing manager for Sodexo at UTM, said that this committee serves to better hear the wants of students and to engage them in their dining experience at UTM.
“We want students to give us their input and tell us how we can improve,” Jones said. “We want the positive, negative [feedback] and idea suggestions. We want to better serve the campus, and for students and faculty/ staff to feel comfortable coming to us with their wants, needs and complaints.”
Previously, the Food Committee was a program, whose meetings were only attended by a handful of students, who met in the back conference room of the dining hall once a month to discuss UTM dining and meal services.
The new Student Culinary Council will be meeting in the main dining hall, on the last Thursday of every month at 12:30 p.m.. These meetings are open to all students and faculty who would like to have their voices heard regarding dining at UTM.
