From the Office of Student Affairs.
The spread of COVID-19 has resulted in the shift of all face-to-face courses to online delivery for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. As a result, many students are no longer on campus and have returned home. The university will provide prorated refunds to students for the following:
- Dining
- Housing
- Parking
The refund amounts will be calculated on a daily rate of costs between March 13, 2020, and May 1, 2020. The rate is determined by the housing or meal plan selected by the student. Students who receive an exemption to remain on campus through the end of the term will not receive a refund for these services or fees.
The source of payment, such as institutional scholarships, will be considered in determining eligibility of refunds. Also, outstanding balances must be satisfied before a refund is issued. The refund amount will be applied to the April payment for students on payment plans.
We encourage students who have not already done so to sign-up for electronic funds transfers (EFT) to receive refunds. The following link is provided to help with the process: http://www.utm.edu/departments/bursar/E-Refunds.php. EFTs can be managed through Banner Self-Service. Students who already have enrolled for EFT should use this time to ensure the current banking information is reflected. EFT is the quickest way to receive refunds. Paper refund checks will only be mailed to the permanent address on file. This address can be updated on Banner Self-Service. Students may view accounts on April 6th for the anticipated refund amount, shown as a credit balance. The refund process will begin April 6th.
Tuition, mandatory fees, and course fees will not be refunded as the university continues to engage students online in a variety of ways. We appreciate the resilience and creativity of the students, faculty, and staff during this global crisis. More importantly, we look forward to your safe return to campus.
