The world is media, and with media comes the people who need to learn how to design it: in comes the UT Martin Media Design Club.
The Media Design Club is an on-campus organization to encourage UT Martin students interested in learning about the world of media design. It connects students interested in the subject and those who want to increase their skill level in the up-and-coming industry. You will learn what media design is, how it works in our world, and why it is so prevalent and important to our everyday lives.
The organization does several workshops and projects and brings in guest speakers in the industry to give insight into what people are looking for and what to expect when looking for jobs, along with figuring out ways to help the community and bring more light to the up-and-coming field.
Last semester, the club hosted Maegan Jolley of the local small business Jolley Lane Design Co. and learned about designing heat transfer images and how to apply them to clothing.
This semester, the organization held a meeting to celebrate Valentine’s Day and hosted Holly Snyder on March 7th to discuss multimedia communications.
Everyone is welcome to join or sit in on a meeting. It doesn’t matter if you are majoring in Media Design, as the organization looks to be a way for people to have a creative outlet and connect with people they may not usually have.
“Media Design Club is not a communications exclusive club! We are open to all majors wanting to learn more about digital creation,” Media Design Club President Rylee Smith says to anyone who is interested in learning more about the organization.
Meetings are biweekly on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. in the reading room, 309, in Gooch Hall. For more information about the organization, if you are interested, email Rylee Smith at rylasmit@ut.utm.edu.
