Student Health has prepared for the upcoming flu season by offering flu shots for only $20.
The flu shots can only be purchased with Skyhawk Silver money, since Student Health no longer accepts cash.
Students without insurance don’t need to worry. Student Health doesn’t accept any form of insurance, because the only requirement is that you are a UTM student.
“It is important for students to get their flu shots, and we encourage them to do so as soon as possible,” said Shannon Deal, Director of Student Health & Counseling Services.
For the students new to UTM, Student Health no longer gives out excuses for missed classes. So, if you schedule an appointment, try to take that into consideration.
According to cdc.gov , or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of Sept. 16, 2011, 97.7 million doses of the 2011-2012 seasonal influenza vaccination have been distributed. The seasonal flu activity is expected to begin as early as October, and last as late as May 2012.
According to the CDC, “While there are many different flu viruses, the flu vaccine is designed to protect against the three main flu strains that research indicates will cause the most illness during the flu season.” Student Health offers the proper vaccination for the expected seasonal flu strains.
You can take everyday preventive steps like staying away from sick people and washing your hands to reduce the spread of germs. If you are sick with flu, stay home from classes and events to prevent spreading the seasonal influenza to others.
Student Health is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. and appointments are preferred. Students are encouraged to call the day before to schedule an appointment.
