Stay chilly with these winter fashion trends

This winter, those who are tracking internet trends can see a lot of new and old fashion styles reappear. Those who are freshly dressed and look cool are leaning towards patterns and different textures and how they work together. As the first week back at school commences, we can surely be looking forward to seeing these fashion do’s and don’ts with tips and tricks. Starting with what’s in, we have:

Colorful Tights:

Pairing a pair of maroon or dark purple tights under your shorts and skirts has been all over TikTok. A trick for this to make them winter appropriate is flesh colored leggings underneath, especially fleece lined. You might get some odd looks for the shorts, but you’re more stylish and warm.

Big Glasses:

Last year, we usually saw a lot of smaller, thinner framed glasses that sat on the end of your nose, but this winter we saw a lot more large framed glasses. The smaller glasses were sort of on theme for the Y2K style that was huge last year. Alternatively, the tortoise-shell and colorful glasses that are on trend this season are a great way to add something extra to the outfit rather than trying to get them to blend in with, for example, clear glasses.

Lots of Jewelry:

Some of the coolest outfits we see have so much layered jewelry, even mixing metals and having different jewel tones. Having long crystal necklaces mixed with gold chains, along with the thread “friendship bracelet” vibe on your wrists, can add a lot of color and visual interest by introducing more variety in patterns and textures.

Plenty of Layers:

The past few months especially have shown an increase of interest in fashion on social media such as TikTok and Instagram, as people are attempting to guess what the new years’ trends will be. Outfits called “seven point outfits” have been under the scope this year. These outfits consist of at least seven different items, often requiring layering to add more contrast and interest to the outfit. Beyond visual intrigue, these outfits have an extra plus- they’ll keep you warm as we experience lower temperatures.

Ballet Flats:

Ballet flats have grown exceedingly popular among girls, even being worn by more experimental men who appreciate fashion. One of the most popular styles is influenced by the Maison Margiela “tabis,” although they are incredibly expensive and similar looking shoes without the designer label are much more accessible. Bows on the tips are also a big deal amongst the coquette girls.

Fuzzy Accessories:

Another practical trend being seen this year is the rise of fuzzy accessories. Earmuffs, Ushanka hats, legwarmers, and scarves have reached a level of popularity that was not quite reached by last winter’s y2k inspired style. Accessories this winter are becoming bigger and fuzzier, and outfit silhouettes are growing in importance.

Jewel Tones:

Colors such as navy, burgundy, forest green and plum-ish shades of purple are considered timeless and this year they’re coming back in full force. This winter has been full of reds and navies as people aimed for a more sophisticated look for their holiday decor, finding inspiration in Ralph Lauren and the old money style. The desire for chic, timeless, sophisticated pieces has become the new trend. Even beyond decor, pops of deep teal or purple have become much more popular in clothing and accessories.
