The first day of the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Rifle Championships is complete as the UTM ranks in third after the smallbore portion of the event held at the Skyhawk Rifle Range.
Morehead State tops the field with 2,293 points while Murray State follows with 2,288 points. UTM compiled 2,269 points today and was followed by Jacksonville State’s tally of 2,268 points.
Rachel Sprague paced the Skyhawks today with 578 points, which is eight points higher than her season average. The sophomore from Falls Creek, Pennsylvania was responsible for kneeling relays of 99-93, prone relays of 99-97 and standing relays of 98-96.
Kaitlin Korinek was the next highest finisher for UTM, producing a score of 571 (99-93 kneeling; 97-98 prone; 91-93 standing). Jennifer Plocinik tallied 562 points behind scores of 92-95 in kneeling, 99-97 in prone and 87-92 in standing. Separated by one point was Jacob Osborne (558) and Nick Fares (557), as Osborne managed scores of 94-94 in kneeling, 97-97 in prone and 89-87 in standing. Shooting five points above his season average was Fares, who recorded scores of 98-90 in kneeling, 91-93 in prone and 91-94 in standing.
Michael Dietz from Jacksonville State accounted for the highest smallbore total with 581 points. Murray State’s Matias Kiuru (579), Sprague (578) as well as the Morehead State duo of Alexa Potts (577) and Ryan Hinson (576) rounded out the top-five individuals.
The second and final day of the 2020 OVC Rifle Championships will take place on Sunday, Feb. 9. Air rifle relays will take place at approximately 8:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. and shortly thereafter an OVC champion will be determined. All-OVC honorees and an awards recognition will follow at the Alumni Gym on campus around 3:30 p.m.
