Sororities collecting items for local Blessing Basket

The College Panhellenic Council is currently accepting donation items through Dec. 4 for the Blessing Basket, a nonprofit organization helping foster families in West Tennessee.

The mission of the Blessing Basket is to ease the first night of placement for a foster family. This is a place for foster families to get supplies they need for their foster children at no cost to the family. Whether this is an emergency placement or a foster family in need, the Blessing Basket is a place where they can get everything they need for a child of any age.

Urgent needs for the organization include: body wash, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste, underwear, socks, diapers, pull-ups, wipes, bottles, sippy cups, soap, lotion, powder and car seats. Other donation items requested are gently used clothing for teenage girls or boys, gently worn shoes, winter items, new socks and underwear of all sizes. The Blessing Basket has made an Amazon wishlist that will ship items directly to the organization. The wishlist can be found at: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/31CNQCP86XV8A?ref_=wl_share.

“I’m excited to see the community come together to help out the West TN community that has given us so much,” says Annie Harris, president of the CPC. “Every single child deserves to have clothes to wear and soap for when they shower. This organization helps these kids in unique situations get some of their dignity back, even if it’s just for one night,” she continued.

To donate items, reach out to any member of the College Panhellenic Council, or contact them on social media @utmartinpanhellenic. Items can also be dropped off in the Office of Student Life and Multicultural Affairs in 245 Boling University Center. Items ordered from Amazon will ship directly to the Blessing Basket.

The Blessing Basket is located in Cottage Grove, Tennessee, and welcomes local groups to come volunteer their time to remove clothing pins and tags, as well as help to organize the facility for once-a-season shopping days.
