Sophomore honored as OVC runner of the week

Just days after recording a new personal-record at the John Flamer Invitational, UTM sophomore standout Alexis Grandys was named Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week.

A native of Yorkville, Illinois, Grandys took first place out of 58 competitors at the SIUE John Flamer Invitational last week. Running on the course that will host the OVC Championship in November, she trimmed nearly 40 seconds off her previous 5k PR with a finish of 18:08.0 to take first place overall. The field included four total OVC teams while her individual performance helped lead the Skyhawks to a team title.

In just her second season running cross country for the Skyhawks, Grandys has continually improved. The performance marked the second sub-19 minute time of her career.

Grandys and the Skyhawks will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Chile Pepper Invitational.
