“We… are Venom.” Sony Pictures Entertainment released the newest trailer for the Spider-Man villain/anti-hero Venom.
Currently the number one trending video on YouTube, Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, also known as Venom, in this action-thriller film. It is unknown what the exact plot of the film is, but based off of the trailer, it will focus on Carlton Drake, played by Riz Ahmed from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, trying to capture Eddie Brock and separate him from the Venom symbiote.
The trailer also seemed to allude to the fact that Drake will be creating more creatures like Venom. Ultimately, it is unknown for sure what will happen in the film, but as of right now, all we can do is speculate. The film also stars Michelle Williams as Ann Weying, who will be the love interest of Eddie Brock. The film is rounded out by Jenny Slate, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Woody Harrelson, Sope Aluko and Scott Deckert, whose characters have yet to be revealed.
For the trailer itself, the dialogue from the characters seemed to be a bit off. It was noticeable that most of the dialogue went through ADR, additional dialogue recording. However, that was the only thing that truly felt off. Everything else in the trailer was action-packed, and it focused heavily on Tom Hardy.
For this film, that is where the trailers need to focus. There will most likely be scenes where it is just Hardy talking to himself in a scene with the voice of the symbiote replying back to him. That was something else that was done well. This trailer established that the symbiote and Eddie Brock are two separate characters that will be in conflict with each other. Eddie wants to stop bad people; the symbiote wants to do whatever it wants. The trailer also showed the comic book accurate dialogue that Venom has with him saying “we” not “I,” which was a major criticism of the Topher Grace portrayal in Spider-Man 3.
Ultimately, this was a good trailer to show the first glance at Venom in the full suit. The trailer ends with that, and that is what people will remember the most from the trailer.
