It was a rough afternoon for the Skyhawks, while Morehead State was busy taking down the baseball team, the softball team dropped both games of their double-header to Eastern Kentucky.
Eastern Kentucky (29-17, OVC 16-5) got off to a hot start scoring two runs in the first inning and it would prove to be enough to hold the lead and
carry them to victory in game one. The Colonels got out to an early 3-0 advantage before the Skyhawks (20-16, OVCÂ 11-9) were able to get on the board. The team only had three hits, Kenzi Tate led the team going 2-for-2. Tate also scored the lone run for the team in the bottom of the sixth as they lost game one to the Colonels 4-1.
Casey Vincent pitched game one for the Skyhawks. She allowed two earned runs while pitching five strikeouts.
Game two proved to be much different, at least at the start. UTM came out with something to prove and after three innings were up on the Colonels 3-0. However, Eastern Kentucky scored five unanswered runs over the next four innings giving them the 5-3 victory.
Becca Williams led the team in hits with two in game two. Tate, Lauren Smith and Sam McClure combined for the three runs in their loss. Tate and Autumn Glenn both pitched game two for the Skyhawks. Tate allowed four runs off of eight hits with an ERA of 2.84, while Glenn allowed one run off of three hits with an ERA of 1.73
