Softball continues fall slate this weekend

The Skyhawk softball team will continue their fall slate this Saturday, Sept. 21, against Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) and John A. Logan College (JALC).

The Skyhawks started fall softball on Saturday, Sept. 14, in Martin against Rend Lake College of Ina, Illinois. In the double-header, UTM pulled out two 10-0 wins.

This coming Saturday will also be a double-header, this time against DSCC at 10 a.m. and JALC at 2:30 p.m. Both matchups will be held in Martin at the Bettye Giles Softball Field.

DSCC, which plays in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), had a successful 2018 season, going 23-19 overall but 14-15 in their conference. The Eagles finished fifth in the TCCAA in 2018.

The Skyhawks are coming off of a winning season of their own, going 29-27 overall but 10-12 in their conference, the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).

UTM advanced to the postseason last year, but lost to No. 7 Belmont in the OVC Softball Championship.

The Skyhawks have two more weekends of fall softball before taking a hiatus until the Southern Louisiana Lion Classic in February 2020.

The following four matchups in 2019 will be against Northeast Mississippi State Community College, Bethel and Freed-Hardeman. All but one of these matchups will be in Martin.

Fall softball games are all preseason exhibition matches that don’t count toward the team’s overall record.

Anyone interested in seeing what the 2019-2020 iteration of the Skyhawk softball team has to offer can see the Skyhawks in action at the Bettye Giles Softball Field this weekend.
