The Skyhawk soccer team fell 1-0 to the Little Rock Trojans in a defensive battle between two OVC opponents on Thursday, Oct. 3, moving them to 2-7-3.
Both teams were very aggressive throughout the game with 24 shots between the two. However, the Trojans were able to outlast the onslaught.
Trojan goalkeeper Peyton Urban put on a shut-out performance with five saves on the Skyhawks’ 11 shots; four of them coming in the second period. Â
Despite the score, the Skyhawk offense was active with 11 shots on goal, nine coming in the second period, and five of those shots being on target. Led by Peyton Cook with three shots and two on goal followed by Makayla Robinson, Izzy Patterson and Anna Østergaard Ibsen with two shots each. Other contributors include Brooke Kala with one shot on goal and Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles with one shot.
It took 30 minutes before the game’s one and only goal was scored unassisted by Trojans sophomore midfielder Candice Kilderry.
It’s hard to ignore the one goal, seeing as it was the game-winning goal, but goalkeeper Mac Titus put forth a great performance for the Skyhawks that was only soured by the one goal allowed. Titus played the entire 90 minutes for the Skyhawks, her 12th start of the season, facing 13 shots from the Trojan offense and saving two early in the match. Â
Despite their best attempts to come back from down a goal, shots from Cook and Patterson in the 49th and 50th minute respectively, the Skyhawks couldn’t make up the difference. They continued to attack the Trojan defense to no prevail with shots from Cook and Østergaard Ibsen in the 52nd and 77th minute respectively.
The Skyhawks would eventually fall scoreless to the current OVC co-leading Trojans and move to 2-7-3 and 1-3 in OVC play.
Next week the Skyhawks (2-7-3) get the Morehead State Eagles (5-5-3) in Martin on Sunday, Oct. 6.
