The Skyhawk rifle squad went up against Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Ole Miss in Murray, Kentucky, this past Sunday, Oct. 13, posting a consistent 4,591 aggregate score.
This is the second time this season the rifle team has posted a 4,591 aggregate, with the first time being against Memphis on Sept. 21. This is a slight dip from the last time the Skyhawks were in Murray on Oct. 6, when the team shot their highest score of the season at 4,593.
The Rebels racked up an aggregate score of 4,668 to claim their first win of the 2019-2020 season.
Senior Kaitlin Korinek led the team in individual performance, shooting 557 in small-bore and 589 for air-rifle for an aggregate score of 1,166. Korinek’s air-rifle score was the second-highest among all competitors, with only Claire O’Neel of Ole Miss shooting better (591).
Former OVC Freshman of the Year Rachel Sprague came in second on the Skyhawks and sixth overall, shooting 578 on small-bore and 586 on air-rifle for an aggregate of 1,164. Sprague claimed fifth place in small-bore, barely edging out fellow Skyhawk Korinek with a score of 578.
Sprague took seventh in air-rifle with a score of 586.
Though Korineck and Sprague were the only two Skyhawks to rank within the top-10, freshman Nick Fares had a successful outing, posting personal-bests of 567 on small-bore and 572 on air-rifle. Fares took third-place on small-bore among the Skyhawks.
