After trailing for most of the game the Skyhawks were able to come back from 8 points down with under four minutes to play to beat the Kennesaw State Owl’s 65-63.
The Owl’s started off hot pulling out to an 11-3 lead over the Skyhawks with 15:49 remaining in the first half. Within the next 4-minutes the Skyhawks turned it up on the Owl’s pulling within two points with a score of 17-15.
After trading leads for the remainder of the 1st half and the first part of the 2nd half the Owl’s pulled out to another eight point lead as they led the Skyhawks 57-49. As time started to become a factor with the Skyhawks still down six points Junior Guard Mike Liabo would come in to hit a big three-pointer and you could finally feel the momentum changing in favor of the Skyhawks.
We were all tied up with 6.6 seconds remaining as the Skyhawks were able to hit the game winning two-point shot with a mere two seconds left on the clock.
Sophomore Forward, Myles Taylor, led the Skyhawks in scoring and rebounds with 20 total points and nine total rebounds, eight defensively. Other leading scorers were: Junior Guard Justin Childs with 12 points and fellow Junior Guard Mike Liabo with 14 points, including two three-point shots that helped swing the game in the Skyhawks favor.
When asked about the big win and how he felt about his team going forward Coach James had this to say, “I like our guys, I told them in the locker room I’m proud to be their coach, because of our character, because of our fight, because of our competitiveness. We’ve got a lot of things to clean up, we know that. We got to get a lot better, we know that too, but I like where we are. This is a huge step for us being in a tight game, and wining a tight game which is something we haven’t done yet to this point…we’re learning about ourselves every day.”
We saw Bobby Jones gown to very hard in the second half, but to this point there is no update on his condition.
The Skyhawks will travel to Central Arkansas to take on the Sugar Bears Dec. 5th at 7pm.
