“Tough day,” said UTM head coach Bubba Cates. “We’ve been short handed offensively and we know that. We know we can’t give up a lot of runs because of that … We just didn’t have a very good day and that’s something, for us, that’s hard to overcome. We got down a lot early, but our guys fought.”

In the first game of the series the Skyhawks (10-29, OVC 3-18) held a 1-0 lead until the top of the seventh when Morehead State (12-28, OVC 7-11) finally scored their first run. Morehead State added two more in the top of the eighth and took home the win.

Game two was slow until the top of the fifth. With a score of 2-0 the Eagles exploded with four runs extending their lead to 6-0. Byron Johann scored a run in the bottom of the eighth giving the Skyhawks their first of the game. They would tack on two more in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough and they fell to the Eagles 7-3.

In game three, it was all Morehead State. The Eagles scored twice in the first inning and then, after a scoreless second inning, rattled off six runs in the top of the third, giving them the 8-0 advantage.

UTM finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with runs from Drew Erie and Luis Paublini. The Skyhawks totaled three runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Morehead State answered with two of their own. UT M scored again in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late as the Eagles won 11-6.

In game three, Taylor Cox led the team with three hits. Nico Zych, Sonny Mastromatteo and Grant Glasser all totaled two hits each. Three different pitchers were sent to the mound in the game, Dalton Potts, John Skubina and Chris Ross. Potts allowed the most runs with eight and the most hits with seven with an ERA of 6.65. Skubina allowed one run and five hits with an ERA of 6.67 and Ross allowed two runs off of three hits with an ERA of 5.67.

The Skyhawks will travel to Central Arkansas Tuesday April 23, the game is set to start at 3 p.m. They will return home to take on Indiana State April 26-28.
