The Skyhawk baseball team finishes the first home series of the year in walk-off fashion over Samford in game three.
After opening the season 5-6, with all games being on the road, the Skyhawks finally returned home to host Samford after the original home opener was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Skyhawks lost big in both game one and game two with a combined score of 26-5. On the verge of a series sweep, outfielder (OF) Arderrius Townsend crushed a walk-off grand slam over the outfield wall to win game three 10-6.
The club’s standouts through the first 14 games include utility man (UTL) TJ Grines and infielder (IF) Jonah Katsaboulas. Grines leads the team in batting average (BA) and on base plus slugging (OPS), with a slash line of .417/.472/.708.
The Skyhawks baseball team will look to capitalize on momentum after the big win Sunday as they go back on the road for the next four games. The club will travel to Auburn University to play the red hot Auburn Tigers who are 13-3, before traveling to Bowling Green to take on Western Kentucky in a three game series.
The club will then return home for a four game homestand on March 21. This will be the first games of the season played against an OVC rival. They will play a three game series against the Southeast Missouri Redhawks before Southern Illinois comes to Skyhawk field on March 25 at 5 p.m.
