The Skyhawk’s soccer girls fought hard to against SIU Edwardsville Sunday October 27, 2013 but fell short with a score of 1 to 0.
The goal was early in the first half and caught everyone off guard. With that the heat was on and our girls fought to make up the difference in the beginning but couldn’t find the sweet spot before the buzzer for half time. As the second half began the girls flooded the field with heart and determination but SIU keep them at bay till the end of the match. As the final seconds ticked down everyone’s heart sank for the Skyhawks, working so hard but not getting their reward. “ We’re all disappointed we couldn’t win this one but we still have a chance at OVC.” said UTM Defender Corrie Dew.
With this lost the girls still can win OVC but will need some support to bring it home.
“It was a typical Sunday game which was a little flat coming off Friday night’s game,” said UT Martin head soccer coach Phil McNamara. “We missed an opportunity today and we’ve got to come out this week in practice and look forward to a good Southeast Missouri team to close out the season next Friday. We’re disappointed that we couldn’t have put it to bed today and left the field celebrating, but we hope it will make us focus even more moving forward.”
The crowd was small for this game with only 289 in attendance, compared to Friday’s game with over 400 fans to cheer the girls on. The three years running the girls have set the bar and won the OVC, and they want to make it four straight years this Friday November 1, 2013.
