The UTM Skyhawks women’s soccer team defeated Austin Peay Sunday 4-2 on Senior day.
Eight seniors were recognized before the game for their hard work and contributions to the Skyhawks’ soccer program.
“It’s an emotional weekend and an emotional day today,” said UTM head coach Phil McNamara. “Just glad we could get the win today.”
The Skyhawks pounced early as Rianna Jarrett scored a 1v1 goal with an assist by Ashlie Watson 57 seconds into the match. The early goal was the only goal scored in the first half and the Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
UTM would jump out to a 2-0 lead when senior Dominika Conc took a pass by Jarrett and fired a shot into the net at the 56th minute. Austin Peay battled back in the 60th minute when Lady Gov Sophia Fabbr0 scored a goal with an assist by her sister Gina.
Another UTM senior, Ashlie Watson, tallied a goal at the 71st minute with an assist by Eva Heller. Jarrett would score another goal, her 17th this season, in the 74th minute with help from Ashlie Watson. Down 4-1, Austin Peay would try to rally back, but could only score one goal in the 86th minute by Taylor Van Wagner. UTM would take the win over the Lady Govs, 4-2.
Rianna Jarrett had a big game, scoring two goals and an assist in the 66 minutes that she played.
Senior goalkeeper Mariah Klenke had six saves and allowed only two goals.
“That’s two games back-to-back that we have been able to score four goals, so that’s very positive,” said McNamara.
The women will play their next game Friday, Oct. 31 against Murray State. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Skyhawk Field.
