Skyhawk Walk

The week of homecoming at UT-Martin is one of the most exciting weeks of the fall semester.

With the weather being as great as it is at this time of year, there are numerous events that the average student can get excited about whether it is the Pyramid Pep Rally, Lip-Sinc, Step Show, Rope Pull or Quad City. Out of all of those events, there is one that is special to UT-Martin.

The Skyhawk Walk is a tradition that is incorporated into Quad City. Each year, towards the end of the duration of Quad City, the Skyhawk Walk starts to form. It involves the UT-Martin marching band, the cheerleaders and the UT-Martin football team.

The Skyhawk Walk starts by the Paul Meek Library with the marching band leading the way. Playing the fight song as they travel along the path designated for the walk, the marching band is followed by the cheerleaders and the football team. Fans, students, faculty members, community members, and any other attendant of Quad City line the path and cheer on the football team on their way to the stadium for their homecoming game.

Senior offensive lineman Charles Sweeton said, “the Skyhawk Walk is my favorite part of homecoming. The Quad is packed with the different tents of all the different organizations and greek life, and for once, it feels like we are all on the same page as a University and striving for the same goal. It is neat to see everyone be excited about homecoming and it helps us to have a great game day atmosphere”.

The Skyhawk Walk is one of the most unique experiences that is offered during homecoming week at UT-Martin. Next year, while attending Quad City, be sure to stick around for the Skyhawk Walk. You will be sure to not regret it.
