The UTM tennis team was back in action this evening, putting up a fight before falling by a 6-1 margin at in-state foe Lipscomb.
The Skyhawks came up just short in doubles as the host Lady Bisons managed to take the opening point. Amelia Campbell and Jule Streif teamed up at No. 1 but were defeated 6-3 while UTM’s No. 3 team of Sina Albersmeier and Mizuki Sakurai fell 6-4. The Skyhawks’ No. 2 pair of Aziza Aubin and Daphne Pratt were locked in a battle (5-4) but the match went unfinished after Lipscomb clinched the point.
In singles, Albersmeier came away with her first triumph of the season – earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4. However, that would be the only win for UTM as the Lady Bisons took the remaining five singles points.
Pratt was slotted at No. 1 for the Skyhawks but fell 6-0, 6-0. Representing UTM at No. 3 was Aubin, who was defeated by a 6-2, 6-4 margin. Streif (6-4, 6-2) and Jillian Niedzialowski (6-0, 6-4) fell at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively. At No. 5, Sakurai competed throughout but dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
The Skyhawks resume their weekend road trip tomorrow with a 1 p.m. CST matchup against Chattanooga.
