Skyhawk soccer stifled by the Redhawks in a 2-0 loss

The Skyhawk soccer team fell 2-0 to the SEMO Redhawks on senior day.

Seniors acknowledged included Brooke Kala, Makayla Robinson, Nyeemah Prescod-Peebles, Parker Gelinas and Izzy Patterson.

The loss moves UT Martin to 3-6-0 in the OVC (4-10-3 overall) and secures the eighth seed in the OVC tournament.

The Skyhawk offense, despite many opportunities, could not get over the hump against the Redhawk defense. A total of 12 shots for the Skyhawks missed their target and allowed the Redhawks to respond with 22 shots of their own without pressure.

Leading the attack was Sr. Izzy Patterson with four shots (two on goal). Other contributors included So. Peyton Cook with three shots (one on goal), Fr. Alberte Amby with two shots and one shot each from Jr. Abbie McHenry, Sr. Nyeemah Prescod-Peebles and Sr. Brooke Kala. Despite these attempts, the Skyhawks just could not seem to find the net.

Defensively, Sr. Mac Titus held up well but could not remain perfect against the barrage of shots from the Redhawks. Titus was in goal a total of 80 minutes for the match, accounting for three saves while facing 22 shots and allowing two goals.

Scoring for the Redhawks was Sr. Elizabeth Rater in the 17th minute and Jr. Zoe Houston in the 57th minute, both of which were the result of corner kicks.

In the last ten minutes of the match, Titus was substituted for RS Jr. Molly Corgan. This was Corgan’s season debut and was a solid overall outing for the transfer out of Costal Carolina who posted a shutout ten minutes for the Skyhawks, facing zero shots from the Redhawks.

The loss on Sunday moves the series between the two teams to a 10-13-7 record.

Despite the loss, the Skyhawks are still set to compete in the OVC tournament where records no longer matter. The Skyhawks will travel to Evansville, Ind. to face #5 Morehead State in the first round on Oct. 31, at 2:00 p.m.

In the season, the Skyhawks fell to the Eagles 1-0 at home.
