Skyhawk soccer splits conference games and move to 3-9-3 on the season

Vs. Lindenwood

On Sunday, Oct. 13, the Skyhawks hosted the 8-4-3 Lindenwood Lions for a conference game against the number 1 team in the OVC.

After falling behind 2-0, the Skyhawks would attempt to mount a comeback, but would fall short 2-1. The lone goal for the Skyhawks came from senior Izzy Patterson, who squeezed the ball into the top right corner of the goal to bring the Skyhawks within one of the Lions in the 73rd minute of the match.

Other contributors in the Skyhawks offensive included senior Makayla Robinson (three shots on goal), junior Abbie McHenry (one assist, two shots with one on goal) and one goal each from Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles, Alberte Amby, Anna Ƙstergaard Ibsen, Shyla Addington and Parker Gelinas.

The Skyhawks deployed two goalies against the Lions with senior Mac Titus beginning the game and sophomore Jordyn Riffle filling in the second half.

Titus, who has been the starter the majority of the season for the Skyhawks, faced ten shots from the Lion offense saving five goals while allowing two goals in the 6th and 13th minutes respectively.

Four of Titusā€™s five goals saved came within the first 15 minutes with the Lions capitalizing on a slow start for the Skyhawks. After that, the Skyhawk defense started to settle in, and Titus would only face one more shot in the rest of the first half.

After subbing in for Titus, Jordyn Riffle would continue the Skyhawksā€™ elevated defensive effort. Riffle would face ten shots in the second period, saving three while not allowing a single goal from the Lindenwood attack.

At. Western Illinois

In the end, the Skyhawk effort was too little, too late following the quick 2-0 deficit they found themselves in.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, the Skyhawks traveled toĀ Western Illinois to face the 1-12-1 Leathernecks in their second conference game of the week. UT Martin beat Western Illinois in every facet of the game this past Thursday, dominating the LeathernecksĀ on both defense and offense. Ā

Skyhawk seniors Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles and Makayla Robinson would each score goals in the 13th and 44th minutes respectively pushing UT Martin to an early lead that Western Illinois couldnā€™t surmount. Robinson would lead the Skyhawks with four total shots with Prescod-Beckles not far behind with three shots of her own, all three of which were on goal.

Other offensive contributors included Sr. Izzy Patterson (three shots with one on goal) and one shot each from So. Peyton Cook, Fr. Alberte Amby and Jr. Abbie McHenry.

Senior goalkeeper Mac Titus would clock the second shutout of her Skyhawk career facing ten shots, seven of which came in the second half, with three saves solely in the second period.

The Skyhawks wouldnā€™t let Western Illinois breathe in this one and the stats and scoreboard show it.

This Sunday, Oct. 20, the Skyhawks travel to Eastern Illinois to play the 5-6-5 Panthers at 1 p.m. central in another pivotal conference matchup.
